A stump left in the ground doesn't just look unfinished — it can attract carpenter ants and fungal decay, and it's a mowing hazard for years. We grind stumps down 6 to 12 inches below grade depending on what you're planning for the spot, deep enough that regrowth and mower strikes stop being a problem.
Grinding produces a pile of wood chips and soil mixed with the ground stump material, which we can either haul away or leave for you to use as mulch or fill, whichever you prefer. For larger stumps or root systems that extend into a planting bed, we can also grind out the visible surface roots to make regrading easier.

How deep do you grind the stump?
Typically 6 to 12 inches below grade, depending on what's planned for the area afterward. If you're putting in a paver patio or driveway over the spot, we'll grind deeper and discuss base prep with whoever's doing that work.
Can you grind a stump that's right next to my house or a fence?
In most cases yes — our grinders can work in tight spaces, though very close proximity to a foundation sometimes means we grind by hand at the edges instead of running the machine right up against it. We'll assess it on-site and let you know if there are any limitations.
What do I do with the wood chip pile afterward?
Whatever's easiest for you — we're happy to haul it away as part of the job, or leave it on-site if you want to use it as mulch elsewhere in your yard. Just let us know your preference before we start.
